Benzylamine
Synonyms: Benzenemethanamine
Phenylmethanamine
Monobenzylamine
Molecular Formula: C7H9N
Cas No.: 100-46-9
Structural formula:
Benzylamine is a colorless to pale yellow transparent liquid with strong alkalinity, a strong ammonia odor, and a benzene-based aromatic odor. It easily oxidizes and turns yellow upon prolonged storage. It is miscible with water, ethanol, ether, acetone, etc., and can absorb carbon dioxide from the air to form carbonates. It belongs to the aromatic primary amines, with highly reactive amino groups, and readily undergoes acylation, alkylation, condensation, and oxidation reactions. It is a widely used intermediate among aromatic amines.
Application:
Pharmaceuticals: Its core application is in the synthesis of antibiotics (such as penicillin and cephalosporin derivatives), anti-tuberculosis drugs, anti-tumor drugs, local anesthetics, and antifungal drugs; it is a key raw material for the synthesis of many active pharmaceutical ingredients and pharmaceutical intermediates.
Pesticides and Dyes: Used in the production of herbicides, insecticides, and plant growth regulators; as a dye intermediate, it is used to synthesize acid dyes, basic dyes, and reactive dyes for textile and leather dyeing.
Fine Chemicals and Auxiliaries: Used as an epoxy resin curing agent, adhesive accelerator, metal rust inhibitor, and corrosion inhibitor; used in the synthesis of surfactants, ion exchange resins, and rubber vulcanization accelerators; also used in photosensitive materials, electroplating additives, and polymer crosslinking agents.
